Lac-Color Shellac extract

10g can of Lac-Color. You can achieve shades like carmine red, pink, or brown.

Required amount: approx. 0.2-4.0% of the dye weight.

Required mordant for wool and silk: alum (about 10%)

Cellulose fabrics: about 3% tannin or light tannin, followed by about 10% alum mordant.

LAC-COLOR is a byproduct of shellac production and is obtained from the secretions of scale insects. In Asia, the dye is also used as a food coloring. Depending on the mordant used, this dye can produce carmine red, pink, or brown shades with high fastness, especially on protein fibers.
