Eco-dyeing painting, dyeing, printing with natural materials
A journey into the wonderful world of natural colors! On the trail of a traditional craft, Anja Schrik shows us the rainbow spectrum of natural dyes and their diverse uses. From extracting and mixing colors for printing and painting on fabric and paper to dyeing in dye liquors and vats to eco-printing, everything is included! Her aim is to avoid toxic additives, some of which are used in traditional plant dyes. She has adapted and redeveloped recipes to find environmentally friendly alternatives. The following applies to her: »All the ingredients that I use should be allowed to be poured down the sink.« You will learn how to set up your workplace, which ingredients you can use with a clear conscience, which colorful plants you will find in your area and how to work with them. After universal dyeing recipes that invite you to experiment, Anja Schrik goes into depth on individual topics: In addition to extracting indigo from woad and dyeing it in an indigo vat, she reveals in detail how you can use up to 14 different stain colors from just one dye bath conjure up shades. For Eco-Prints, she developed her own technique that makes it possible to print leaves and flowers even on glass and concrete. A book full of recipes, practical tips, ideas and richly illustrated step-by-step instructions for environmentally friendly dyeing, painting and printing with natural dyes. The journey can begin! Anja Schrik, born in 1967 in Hengelo, the Netherlands, worked as a social scientist until 2014, including in adult education. In 2007 she founded her felt workshop "Viltwerkplaats Odijk", where her textile art is created. She also offers a variety of courses here, including a one-year training course on eco-dyeing. Natural materials are at the center of her artistic exploration. In addition to felting and dyeing with self-made dyes, these are the production of handmade paper from plants and the tanning of fish leather. Her work is presented in exhibitions, e.g. at De National Kunstdagen and Viltexpo, and offered for sale in galleries. In 2013 Anja Schrik self-published her first book “Öko-Filz. Natur Pur!” in Dutch and German. In 2016 "Eco-verf - Kleurijke natuur!" follows, a specialist book on dyeing with natural materials, which will be published in German in 2017. At Wollknoll, Anja Schrik teaches courses on the topics from her books.
